Ticket fraud at Nigerian events is rarely sophisticated. It is a screenshot forwarded to four friends, and a queue moving too fast for anyone to notice.
Scan, do not look
A visual check of a ticket on a phone screen catches nothing. Every ticket must be scanned against a system that marks it used the instant it passes. That single change eliminates most duplicate entry.
Make the scan authoritative
The scanner needs to work when the network does not. Confirm your scanning app holds the guest list locally and syncs when it can, or your gate stops the first time the signal drops.
One scanner per two hundred guests
Under-staffing the door is what creates the pressure to wave people through, which is where fraud actually succeeds.
Decide the dispute rule before the night
When a ticket shows as already used, what happens? Name a single person empowered to make the call, brief them, and make sure the people on the scanners know to escalate rather than argue. A queue is not the place to adjudicate.
Brief the door team properly
Most gate failures are staffing failures. The people scanning need to know what a valid pass looks like, what the app shows when a ticket has already been used, who to call, and that they are not authorised to admit anyone on their own judgement. Ten minutes of briefing prevents most of it.
Wristbands for re-entry
If guests can leave and return, the scan alone cannot manage it. A wristband applied at first entry is simpler and faster than re-scanning, and it stops a used ticket being passed back through the fence.
Separate the queues
Guest list, VIP and general admission moving through one door creates exactly the confusion that lets people through unchecked. Separate lines, clearly signed, are a fraud control as much as a comfort measure.
Watch the resale channels
If tickets are selling out, check the obvious WhatsApp and social channels for resale. Being able to void a specific ticket and reissue it to the genuine buyer turns a scandal into an inconvenience.
Decide your resale position publicly
Either you support transfers through a system that reissues the code, or you state plainly that tickets are non-transferable and will not be honoured if resold. Saying nothing means every dispute at the gate is argued from scratch.
