For most Nigerian organizers, WhatsApp converts better than every social platform combined. It is also the easiest channel to ruin, because the line between a useful message and spam is thin and the punishment is immediate.
Build the list from buyers, not scrapes
Numbers collected at checkout, with consent, from people who have already chosen to attend something of yours. Added strangers report you, and enough reports cost you the number you have spent years building.
Broadcast lists, not groups
Groups create noise and people leave. A broadcast reaches individuals in their own chat, feels personal, and does not invite forty replies everyone else has to read.
Message like a person
No forwarded flyers with fourteen emojis. A short line about what is happening, why it might interest that group, and one link. Write it as though you are sending it to one person, because from their side you are.
Three messages, maximum
Announcement, a mid-campaign reminder tied to something real like a tier closing, and a final-week message. Anything beyond that and your unsubscribes exceed your sales.
The first message decides everything
Before anyone can receive a broadcast, they must have your number saved. Say so explicitly when you collect the number, and send a short introduction immediately so they have a reason to save it. A broadcast to people who have not saved you reaches almost nobody, which is the single most common reason organizers conclude "WhatsApp does not work".
Time it like a person would
Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings outperform everything else. Nobody buys a ticket at 9am on a Monday. Avoid late nights entirely; the resentment costs more than the reach gains.
Use status, not just broadcasts
WhatsApp status reaches the same saved contacts without landing in their chat list as an interruption. It is the right place for the flyer, the behind-the-scenes clip and the countdown, keeping your broadcasts reserved for the few messages that genuinely need a reply.
Reply to everyone
The advantage of WhatsApp over every other channel is that it is a conversation. When someone asks whether there is parking, they are close to buying. A reply within the hour converts at a rate no automated funnel matches, and it is the reason this channel outperforms in the first place.
Segment the list
People who attended your last three events should not get the same message as people who attended one two years ago. The first group deserves a presale; the second deserves a reintroduction.
